A 24-year-old Camarillo man died Monday morning from injuries he received following a solo car accident on Cawelti Road about a mile west of Lewis Road just south of Camarillo, authorities said.
Shannon L. Dixon died at St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital around 10:30 a.m. from critical injuries sustained in the 6:55 a.m. crash.
Witnesses said Dixon was traveling eastbound on the road at about 55 m.p.h. when he lost control of his vehicle. His car then slammed into a large eucalyptus tree that sheered Dixon’s car in half, said California Highway Patrol Officer Bryan Demattia.
Ventura County Deputy Coroner Mitch Breese said that an autopsy of Dixon was pending, but that investigators so far are unsure why the man lost control of the car.
