UAW, NUMMI Reach Tentative Pact: The terms, which were not disclosed, were reached two hours after a strike deadline set for midnight Tuesday, the union said. United Auto Workers Local 2244 represents about 3,500 workers at the New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. unit in Fremont, Calif. NUMMI is a joint venture between General Motors Corp. and Toyota Motor Co. It builds Geo Prizms for GM and pickups and Corollas for Toyota. The previous contract expired July 31, but the bargaining continued.
