News, Tips & Bargains : Warning Against Russian Air Travel
The U.S. State Department is warning Americans not to travel within Russia on the many small airlines that have resulted from the breakup of Aeroflot.
In its new Consular Information Sheet on Russia, the department cited Russian airlines’ “unpredictable schedules and difficult conditions, including deterioration of . . . maintenance, quality of service and overloading.â€
U.S. government officials were earlier warned to defer routine domestic air travel in the country and to seek alternate means of transportation when possible.
For a copy of the information sheet, call the State Department’s Citizens Emergency Center, (202) 647-5225, or its automated fax service, (202) 647-3000.
