Jobless Claims Fall by 59,000: New claims for unemployment benefits for the week ended July 23 stood near 331,000, the lowest total since the last week in March, the Labor Department said. The previous week’s figure was revised from 392,000, because that week had a surge reflecting temporary layoffs in the auto industry and jobs lost from flooding in the Southeast. The department’s four-week moving average, considered a more reliable measure, fell to 357,500 from 363,000.
