GARDEN GROVE — A two-alarm fire gutted the inside of a furniture store and caused about $400,000 in damage early Wednesday, a spokesman for the Fire Department said.
The fire apparently started in a discarded couch in an alley next to the Life Time Furniture store in a business district at Brookhurst Street and Garden Grove Boulevard shortly after 5 a.m., said Capt. Nick Booker of the Garden Grove Fire Department.
Fire investigators said they believe that a transient may have started the fire, which gutted the store’s showroom and destroyed about two-thirds of the building.
The fire was contained at 5:41 a.m. by 21 firefighters from the Garden Grove and Orange County fire departments.
The store’s owner, identified as Chau N. Diep, reported $300,000 in property damage and $100,000 in content damage.
No injuries were reported.
