A Torrance man suspected of committing two robberies at a Canyon Country bank was arrested in Granada Hills by police acting on a tip, authorities said.
Montez Day, 23, nicknamed the “Canyon Country bandit” by federal officials, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of committing a July 13 robbery at the Wells Fargo branch at 19310 Soledad Canyon Road, said FBI spokesman John Hoos.
Day is suspected of robbing the same bank on June 14.
“During the course of the second robbery, he (robs) one teller and looks over and sees the teller he robbed the first time, and he goes over and robs her,” Hoos said.
Hoos declined to say how much money was taken during the robberies.
Day is being held in federal custody in Los Angeles without bail while a grand jury determines if there is enough evidence to indict him on one count of bank robbery, said Carol Levitsky, a spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney’s office. Day could face up to 20 years in prison if he is convicted.
