NEWBURY PARK : Passenger in Car Dies After Accident
A 35-year-old Newbury Park woman was killed after the car she was riding in struck a parked car, authorities said Monday.
Donna Tognetti died of massive internal injuries at Los Robles Regional Medical Center at 6:45 p.m. Sunday, about two hours after her companion, Michael Rowland, lost control of the car he was driving in a Newbury Park residential neighborhood, authorities said.
The pair were going north on Wendy Drive north of Ruth Drive when Rowland lost control of his sports car and broadsided a parked car, California Highway Patrol Officer Staci Morse said.
Investigators do not know how fast Rowland was driving, Morse said. Rowland, 29, of Newbury Park, suffered minor injuries.
Morse said Rowland was not under the influence of any drugs or alcohol. The accident is still being investigated, and authorities have not decided whether to file charges, she said.
