Superior Industries International Inc., a Van Nuys-based supplier of cast aluminum wheels for auto makers, reported net income of $15.4 million for the second quarter ended June 30, a 16% increase from earnings of $13.3 million for the same three-month period a year ago.
Revenue for the recent quarter was $121 million, up 13% from the second quarter of 1993, when the company reported net sales of $107 million.
Louis L. Borick, chairman and president of Superior, attributed the growth to a “robust” automotive economy and successful efforts to acquire a greater share of the cast aluminum wheel market. Superior supplies wheels to various companies, including Ford, General Motors and Toyota, and also makes accessories for the national automotive aftermarket.
For the six months ended June 30, the company reported earnings of $27.9 million on sales of $227 million, compared to profit of $23.3 million on revenue of $205 for the same period a year ago.
