Two men were charged Friday with abandoning hazardous waste in Sun Valley, the Los Angeles city attorney’s office reported.
Jafar Rassouli, 45, of Canoga Park and Hamid Nadjafi, 35, of Reseda are accused of abandoning six 55-gallon drums of highly flammable waste paint at their former business, Best Auto Body, on Sherman Way, the city attorney’s office said.
They were each charged with one count of illegally disposing of hazardous waste and six counts of violating state regulations regarding the handling of hazardous materials, the statement said.
The drums were discovered last year when a new owner moved in, according to Deputy City Atty. Brooke White.
The men are scheduled to be arraigned Aug. 11 in Los Angeles Municipal Court. If convicted, they could be sentenced to two years in jail and fined more than $100,000.
