He’s no bandwagon jumper, honest, but Seamus Malin, analyst for ABC and ESPN on World Cup telecasts, says he predicted Romania and Bulgaria would do well in the tournament. Perhaps not quite as well as Bulgaria reaching the semifinals, but he expected good performances.
“Now that the players are free to move to better circumstances--and make money--it affects their motivation. . . ,” he said. “I thought they’d get to the quarterfinals, but the semis, that’s a surprise. Bulgaria has caught lightning in a bottle.”
