GARDEN GROVE — Applications will be available beginning July 18 for residents interested in running for mayor and two open seats in the City Council in the Nov. 8 election.
The deadline for filing is Aug. 12, unless an incumbent does not file, City Clerk Carolyn Morris said. If that occurs, the filing deadline will be extended to Aug. 17 but only for that seats in which an incumbent does not file, she said.
Candidates must be city residents and registered voters to run, Morris said.
So far, none of the incumbents--Mayor Frank R. Kessler and council members Robert F. Dinsen and Mark Leyes--have formally announced their candidacy.
Kessler was elected to the two-year mayor term in 1992 after four years on the council. Dinsen, who is on his third four-year term, was first elected to the council in 1982. Leyes was the top vote-getter in 1990.
