Foreclosures Rose Through May: Dataquick Information Systems, a La Jolla-based research company, said foreclosure rates throughout the state rose during the first five months of the year. It said foreclosures rose 2.2% in Southern California to 37,385. The statewide rate was up 7% to 52,731. In Los Angeles County, the number of foreclosures or filed notices of default--the first step in a foreclosure proceeding--were down 0.9% through May to 16,881; the Orange County rate was up 4.4% to 5,112.
