BRIEFLY : Medicine: HIV Patients to Test Cancer Medication

UCLA’s Center for AIDS Research and Education (CARE) is seeking HIV-positive subjects with Kaposi’s sarcoma skin lesions to take part in a clinical trial of a medication to treat Kaposi’s sarcoma, the most common cancer found in people with AIDS.

The usual treatment of Kaposi’s sarcoma involves injections of various drugs into individual skin tumors. The medication being tested in the UCLA trial, LGD1057, is a gel that patients can apply themselves.

The four-week UCLA trial is for patients ages 18 and older. Patients may be allowed to continue treatment beyond four weeks if that is medically appropriate. For information, call: (310) 206-6414.
