SEAL BEACH : Council to Vote on Park Equipment
The City Council will vote June 27 on a plan to add a volleyball court and new playground equipment to Edison Park.
The plan has divided the College Park West neighborhood. Some residents argue that the 30-year-old park needs improvements.
But others, whose homes back up to the park, fear that the volleyball court will attract loud youths.
The Parks Commission voted last month to support the proposal, which was submitted by a group of residents who also are raising money to pay for the improvements.
The group said Edison Park could be more valuable to residents if a sand volleyball court is built and the aging metal jungle gym is replaced by a more modern playground.
More than $8,000 has been raised to pay for some of the improvements.
Project opponents complained that the park already generates too much noise.
They have asked the city to add lights to the park and increase security patrols.
