METROLINK: Two people fled their stalled car in Pacoima on Wednesday just before a Metrolink train plowed into it (B1). That makes 21 incidents, including 17 fatalities, since Metrolink started in October, 1992. But those numbers are consistent with other commuter train services in the U.S., says spokesman Peter Hidalgo. . . . “We’re the new kids on the block, and that’s why we’re hot news,†he said.

YOUNG 60: Old age has never looked so good on anyone--no, not even Dick Clark. He’s Donald Duck, and next week, he turns 60. Donald, another Disney creation, is recognized for his raspy voice and hot temper. . . . And today, he’s more popular than ever. “Donald has universal appeal,†said Ken Green, a Disney spokesman in Burbank. “He’s in Eastern Europe and Asia.â€

D-DAY: For Roger Worley, D-day isn’t about the invasion that took place 50 years ago. Rather, his big D stands for today’s amateur baseball draft, and Worley (above), a senior pitcher for Quartz Hill High in Antelope Valley, should be a high selection. . . . Worley isn’t alone. Other area players are expected to be drafted early (C10).

GRADUATION: The quake has affected everything else at Cal State Northridge this semester, so it’s only fitting that graduation has to be shifted around as well. So, instead of the usual spot near the campus library, separate commencements will be held next week at the University Club and North Campus Stadium. . . . In 1992, the school staged one ceremony at the Hollywood Bowl, but it caused a huge traffic jam.

PARADE MYSTERY: Leave it to Topanga. The town is still buzzing over Monday’s Memorial Day Parade, when two men and three women, wearing only brown paint, loincloths and leaves, rode atop a float entry called the “Topanga Tribal Village.†(B3) . . . One problem, though. People can’t find out who they were. “It’s driving everyone crazy!†said Linda Cochrane, manager of Topanga Video. “They were fun.â€
