COLLEGE SOFTBALL ROUNDUP : Schlender’s Homer Helps Canyons to Split in Regionals

Sophomore Christina Schlender belted a three-run home run in the third inning, lifting College of the Canyons to a 4-3 victory over Orange Coast in the first game of the Junior College Southern California Softball Regionals at Palomar College.
Rene Petrie went two for three with a run batted in and a double, and Tricia Beer also had two hits. Freshman Marianne Winchester (12-4) survived a three-run first inning and picked up the win.
Canyons plays the winner of the Orange Coast-Grossmont game at noon today in a losers’ bracket game.
Mt. San Antonio 6, Canyons 1--In the second game of the JC Southern California Regionals, Canyons (23-16) was held to only four singles.
In other games: At Palomar College, Palomar defeated Moorpark, 2-0, in 10 innings. Earlier in the afternoon, Moorpark defeated Rancho Santiago, 1-0, in nine innings, while Ventura lost to Palomar, 8-0.
At Cypress College, El Camino defeated Antelope Valley, 2-0, in eight innings.
