MOORPARK : Woman Rear-Ends Deputy’s Patrol Car
A Ventura County sheriff’s deputy who had stopped his patrol car at a red light was rear-ended by a 27-year-old Moorpark woman whose foot slipped off the brake of her minivan, authorities said Thursday.
Deputy Jerardo Gomez, 27, of Thousand Oaks, was treated for neck and shoulder pain at Los Robles Regional Medical Center and released, authorities said. The driver of the minivan, Roxanna Biejo, was not injured, but an unidentified passenger in the car with her complained of minor back pain, authorities said.
The accident happened about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday in Moorpark, as Biejo was driving westbound on Los Angeles Avenue. As she approached the intersection at Moorpark Avenue, her foot slipped off the brake and hit the accelerator, said Deputy Cindy Vickers.
Biejo then hit the brake pedal again and swerved to the left, hitting the rear of Gomez’s police car, Vickers said.
A witness estimated that Biejo was driving about 35 m.p.h. when she rear-ended Gomez, Vickers said. A preliminary investigation did not show any problems with Biejo’s van, she said.
Biejo was not cited and an investigation is continuing, deputies said.
