Winners Entertainment Inc.: The provider of video game machines said that a West Virginia referendum Tuesday on whether to allow electronic gambling at horse racetracks passed by a wide margin.
In the referendum, 80% of the voters approved the machines, which offer electronic versions of keno, blackjack and draw poker.
Winners Entertainment in San Juan Capistrano has operated video gambling machines at the Mountaineer Racetrack & Resort in Hancock County, W.Va., for almost four years. But for the past year, it has been fending off efforts to have the machines banned from the state.
The company continued to operate the video gambling machines under a temporary court order until voters had a chance to decide the issue.
