Peace Corps to Pull Out of Embattled Sierra Leone

FREETOWN, Sierra Leone — About 300 Peace Corps volunteers from the United States are to leave Sierra Leone next month because of the spreading civil war in the West African country, a U.S. diplomat said Thursday.
“As our embassy in Sierra Leone cannot guarantee the safety of these volunteers, especially those in the southern and eastern regions, and presently the war has stretched to the northern region, we have recalled all of them to Freetown,†said the diplomat.
