PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Sixth-Inning Rally Gets 10th-Ranked Trabuco Hills Past Estancia
Brad Cervantes and Justin Poe had sixth-inning RBI doubles for 10th-ranked Trabuco Hills, which defeated Estancia, 4-2, in a Pacific Coast League baseball game at Trabuco Hills.
Ryan Kelley (9-2) pitched a six-hitter for the Mustangs, striking out five. John Lukin added three hits and two RBIs for Trabuco Hills (16-5, 11-0).
In other league games:
Century 6, Laguna Beach 3--Art Tapia hit his first home run of the season with in the second inning to lead Century (16-5, 8-3). Chris Duran drove in the winning run in the sixth inning and finished the game with two RBIs for the Centurions. Justin Berti and Ryan Sauers went three for four for Laguna Beach (5-14).
In the Century League:
Canyon 17, El Modena 3--Casey Wilson, Eric Valent and Josh Guiterrez hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in the second inning for Canyon (16-4, 9-1).
Guiterrez finished with four hits, including a double, and Greg Jacobs had three hits, including a home run.
Foothill 4, Santa Ana Valley 1--Paul King was three for three with two runs scored, and Bill Reinsch (4-3) pitched a two-hitter, striking out two for host Foothill (10-11, 6-5). Santa Ana Valley is 11-10, 6-5.
Villa Park 9, Orange 2--Matt Brady hit a home run and a three-run double, and Jeff Halbert hit a three-run homer for visiting Villa Park (13-8, 7-4).
In the Freeway League:
Sonora 7, Fullerton 6 (10)--Joey Gomez’s three-run double with two outs in the 10th inning gave the Raiders (9-12, 3-8) the victory.
Sunny Hills 4, La Habra 3--Josh Hochgesang hit a homer and an RBI single, and Jimmy McGuire quelled a La Habra rally in the seventh to earn his fourth save for host Sunny Hills (11-10-1, 7-4).
Troy 6, Buena Park 3--Brian Logan’s two-run single in the fifth inning gave the Warriors (14-6, 7-4) a 5-3 lead, enough for Greg Western, who pitched a complete-game seven-hitter.
Troy (16-5, 8-3) got RBI hits from Ed Achazaria and Tyler Brickell in the top of the inning to get the lead.
In the Garden Grove League:
Bolsa Grande 2, Santiago 0--Jamie Lua drove in the first run of the game with a double in the first inning. Alex Francisco’s double in the second inning drove in the second run for Bolsa Grande (9-10, 5-5). Christian Cortez tripled for the second game in a row for host Santiago (3-16, 2-8).
Kennedy 7, Garden Grove 3--Charlie Marino had one hit and scored two runs for host Kennedy (7-3, 13-8). Chris Clark went the distance for the Fighting Irish, striking out nine.
La Quinta 6, Los Amigos 0--Sean Carlson had two hits, a run scored and two RBIs, and Anibil Delacruz had two hits and two RBIs for fifth-ranked La Quinta (19-3, 10-0).
Rancho Alamitos 5, Pacifica 0--Freshman Taylor Yandell pitched a four-hit shutout, striking out 10, and Tommy Garcia, Brett Osterode and Tony Luce each had two hits for host Rancho Alamitos (5-13, 2-8).
In the Olympic League:
Calvary Chapel 3, Orange Lutheran--Alex Okland’s two-out single in the bottom of the seventh drove in Kenny Nash with the winning run for host Calvary Chapel (12-7, 4-3). Okland had all three RBIs for the Eagles.
In the Sea View League:
Saddleback 5, Newport Harbor 0--Tony Zuniga pitched a two-hitter, striking out nine, for his first shutout. Zuniga was also three for four, scored two runs and drove in a run for host Saddleback (12-9-1, 6-4). Newport is 3-16, 0-10.
In the South Coast League:
Capistrano Valley 11, Dana Hills 0--Ryan Gauntner, Brandon Puffer and Paul Day hit home runs and Brian Harnetiaux was three for four as Capistrano Valley (14-7, 6-5) moved into a tie for second place with Dana Hills (11-10-1, 6-5) and El Toro.
Capistrano Valley touched Dana Hills starter Seth Etherton (7-1) for seven runs in four innings.
El Toro 9, San Clemente 3--Third baseman Justo Capacete went two for two, scored twice, had three RBIs and two stolen bases for El Toro (14-8, 6-5). Ryan Fullerton got two hits during the seven-run fifth inning for the Chargers.
Mater Dei 11, Mission Viejo 2--Matt Treanor had three hits, including a home run, three runs scored and two RBIs for the Monarchs (15-5-1, 10-1). Erik Mattern also had two hits, a home run, two runs scored and four RBIs.
Adam Harris had a perfect game entering the fifth inning, before giving up a walk and a hit.
In the Sunset League:
Edison 4, Westminster 3--The Chargers scored three runs in the third inning on a Greg Hanoian two-run double and Tommy Barilla single to take the lead.
Todd Belitz pitched five scoreless innings for Edison (14-7, 5-5), striking out eight and giving up two hits.
Fountain Valley 3, Marina 1--Dan Hoppie hit a home run for No. 1 Fountain Valley (20-2, 8-2). Kevin Burford added a two-run double in the first.
Santa Ana 4, Ocean View 3--Santa Ana broke its 22-game league losing streak by defeating visiting Ocean View. Jesus Rodarte was two for two, scored one run and had one RBI for the Saints (5-15, 1-8).
