COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Taylor Leads Rancho Santiago in Softball

Freshman Renee Taylor had three hits and scored a run to lead Rancho Santiago over host Golden West, 2-1, in an Orange Empire Conference softball game Wednesday.
Starting pitcher Jocelyn Patrick gave up five hits in seven innings and Lee Ann Morrentino had a double and a triple for the Dons (23-15. 11-5).
In other Orange Empire Conference softball games:
Riverside 4, Fullerton 0--Kathy Cessna pitched a complete game, giving up five hits for Riverside (14-19, 8-8). Fullerton (21-15, 11-5) lost its third consecutive conference matchup and fifth in the last seven games.
Cypress 7, Saddleback 0--Kerry Moloney went two for four with two runs batted in for Cypress (35-14, 11-5).
In Orange Empire Conference golf:
College of the Desert 368, Saddleback 374, Long Beach 374, West Los Angeles 402--Colin McElderry, Jason Reeder and Aki Amaya each shot two-over 74 in Saddleback’s second-place finish. Jeremy Jeffery of College of the Desert and Sal Grizaga of Long Beach were the medalists with one-under 71 at Tijeras Creek.
Cypress 376, Rancho Santiago 384, Riverside 416--Brian Ricketts shot an par 72 and Chris Castellano shot two over to lead Cypress (13-5 in conference) into first place at El Prado.
In Orange Empire Conference men’s volleyball:
Orange Coast 3, San Diego Mesa 0--Danny Newan and Gary Quire each had 10 kills to lead Orange Coast (13-2 in conference) to the 15-1, 15-6, 15-9 victory.
