My Best Shot

A family reunion drew Carolyn Frank of Mission Viejo back to Hawaii last fall. The Hawaii-born Frank was with her parents in Lahaina, Maui--a spot they hadn’t visited in a while--and they were taking an early morning stroll. “I peeked in the door of a little seaside shop and was immediately struck by what I call the ‘Cavalcade of Hats,’ ” says Frank, a schoolteacher and avid amateur photographer. “It was one of those quirk shots. You might take 50 or a hundred pictures and one turns out to be great.”
