Gold Country

Odd that writer Eric Malnic didn’t mention the historic Fallon Theatre in his article on Gold Rush towns (“Mining Gold Country,” March 27).
When the state bought Columbia, it reinforced the aged brick walls and tower of the theater, made other refurbishments and leased it to College of the Pacific (now University of the Pacific) for summer theater activity. COP students got an opportunity to act in three plays in six weeks, providing a stock experience not available anywhere in Northern California.
