Applications Accepted for Journalism Workshop

The California Chicano News Media Assn.’s Los Angeles chapter is accepting applications for its 10th annual High School Journalism Workshop for Minorities.

The July 10-22 journalism training program at USC will provide students with instruction in the fundamentals of putting out a newspaper, including writing, interviewing, editing, photography and layout.

The 20 students selected for the program will stay in USC dormitories. Each student will receive a scholarship to cover room and board.

The students will write news, features and sports stories. They will also conduct interviews on the USC campus and attend breaking news events.

The workshop is open to students graduating in the classes of 1994, ’95 and ’96. Journalism experience is not necessary, but good writing skills are essential.

Applicants must complete a form, write two short essays and submit two letters of recommendation.

Applications must be postmarked by April 30. Finalists will be interviewed May 21.

The program is sponsored by the news media association, the Dow Jones Newspaper Fund, the USC School of Journalism and local media companies.
