Travers Steps Down as El Toro Basketball Coach
Tim Travers has resigned as the boys’ basketball coach at El Toro High, school officials said Friday.
Travers was the Chargers’ coach for 14 seasons. His record was 175-172.
“It was just time to move on,†Travers said. “Basically I’m drained, emotionally and physically. I had a good run for 14 years.â€
The Chargers finished 22-6 in 1990 and reached the semifinals of the Southern Section 5-A playoffs. They lost to eventual-champion Mater Dei, 80-55.
El Toro was South Coast League co-champion in 1987, reached the III-A quarterfinals in 1984 and finished 20-6 in 1988--the Chargers’ second best record under Travers.
Last season, however, the Chargers were 11-14, 3-10 in the South Coast League.
Travers will remain at the school as a history teacher.
“I’m not saying I’ll never coach again. It was just time to step away,†Travers said.
