VENTURA : Day-Care Center’s License Is Revoked
State officials have revoked a Ventura woman’s license to run a residential day-care business after allegations that she endangered children under her care.
The state Department of Social Services revoked Susan Hill’s community care license March 17 after she withdrew her protest of the charges against her and waived her right to a hearing. Hill had been licensed to care for up to 12 children in her home in the 9600 block of Lucerne Street.
According to the state investigation, the children staying at Hill’s home were endangered by her husband, David Hill. He allegedly battered his wife, used cocaine in the home and had marijuana in his possession.
David Hill also has a history of criminal convictions, some violent, and had not been cleared by the state to live in the day-care setting, said Liz Brady, a spokeswoman for the Department of Social Services.
“This is not a gentleman who would be appropriate to have around day-care children,†she said. “You never know when a volatile person is going to lose control.â€
In addition, Susan Hill lied to state investigators about her identity on one occasion in 1993, Brady said. Hill could not be reached for comment.
She will not be eligible to apply for another day-care license for two years, officials said.
