Santa Clarita / Antelope Valley : Driver Falls Asleep, Causing Fatal Crash
ANTELOPE VALLEY — A 17-year-old fell asleep at the wheel and crashed her car head-on into another vehicle, killing an 80-year-old Pearblossom man and critically injuring his wife, authorities said Wednesday.
The crash at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday on California 138 just east of Pearblossom took the life of Henry Pingry. His wife, 69, was in critical condition at Palmdale Hospital Medical Center.
A passenger in the other car, Amy Ballesters, 16, of Palmdale, was seriously injured and remained in Lancaster Community Hospital.
The teen-age driver, a Palmdale resident who authorities declined to name because of her age, may be charged with vehicular manslaughter, according to the California Highway Patrol.
