COSTA MESA : Driver Runs Light, Collides With Officer
A 27-year veteran police officer and another driver collided Wednesday when the latter ran a red light, authorities said.
Officer Chano Camarillo, 49, was treated at a local hospital and released after the 8:40 a.m. crash. The other driver, Judy Oetting, 41, of Costa Mesa, was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where she was listed in guarded condition. She suffered a broken pelvis and left ribs, plus bruises, police said.
Camarillo was northbound on Newport Boulevard when Oetting, going west on Mesa Drive, ran a red light, police said. Camarillo’s car hit her car on the driver’s side, police spokeswoman Pam Thompson said.
The crash caused considerable damage to both vehicles.
It is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol, Thompson said.
