NHL ROUNDUP : Neely’s 50th Goal in 44th Game Puts Him in Fast Company

Cam Neely tied Mario Lemieux in becoming the second-fastest player in NHL history to reach the 50-goal mark, leading the Boston Bruins to a 6-3 victory over the Washington Capitals Monday night at Boston.
Neely scored his league-leading 49th and 50th goals in only his 44th game of the season as the Bruins extended their unbeaten streak to seven games at 6-0-1.
Wayne Gretzky scored 50 goals in 39 games during the 1981-82 season and 42 games in 1983-84. Lemieux reached 50 in 44 games during the 1988-89 season.
Detroit 6, New York Rangers 3--Sergei Fedorov had a goal and two assists as the Red Wings scored the last four goals to win at New York.
St. Louis 3, Toronto 2--Newcomer Petr Nedved assisted on two of Steve Duchesne’s three goals as the Blues recorded their first regular-season victory in Toronto’s Maple Leaf Gardens in more than three years.
Quebec 2, New Jersey 2--Stephane Richer scored early in the third period to rally the Devils to a tie at East Rutherford, N.J.
New York Islanders 7, Winnipeg 2--Ray Ferraro scored twice and had an assist as the Islanders trounced the Jets at Winnipeg.
Florida 2, Vancouver 1--Scott Mellanby scored the winning goal with 38 seconds left at Vancouver.
