Memorial Service Scheduled for Michael Callen

A memorial service for gay activist and artist Michael Callen, composer of the AIDS anthem “Love Don’t Need a Reason,” will be held Sunday at 2 p.m.
Callen, author of “How to Have Sex in an Epidemic,” was credited with coining the term “person with AIDS.” He was one of the longest surviving victims of the disease when he died Dec. 27 at age 39.
The musical service will also feature spoken tributes to Callen. It will be held at Highways, 1651 18th St., Santa Monica.
