The family of a Port Hueneme man critically injured in a hit-and-run accident is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest of the driver responsible.
Russell Akuna, 34, was riding a bicycle just after midnight Feb. 27 along the 700 block of Halyard Street in Port Hueneme when he was struck by a dark-colored sedan, a Port Hueneme police spokeswoman said.
Akuna suffered massive head injuries and was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, where he remains in the intensive care unit, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Along with the reward offered by the Akuna family, Port Hueneme Crime Stoppers has announced that it would give up to $1,000 for tips leading to an arrest.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call Port Hueneme Crime Stoppers at 986-TALK or 988-TALK. The caller may remain anonymous.
