BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Girls’ Playoffs
Crenshaw 91, Grant 17--Kimberly Howse and Kristi Lattin scored 16 and 15 points, respectively, as the Cougars rolled to a City 4-A first-round victory at home Wednesday. Jefferson 53, Hamilton 43--Kyetra Brown had 16 points and 10 assists and Chaka Smith contributed 14 points and 15 rebounds to pace the defending City 3-A champions to their ninth consecutive victory in a quarterfinal game Friday. Banning 55, Garfield 26--The Bulldogs fell behind 45-15 at halftime in a 3-A quarterfinal loss at home Friday. Miriam Gonzalez had a team-high eight points and 13 rebounds for Garfield. Belmont 46, North Hollywood 43--Maria Aguilar scored on a layup to break a 43-43 tie Wednesday as the Sentinels overcame a 10-point third-quarter deficit in a first round City 4-A playoff game at North Hollywood.
Aguilar finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds and Sylvia Corado scored 11 for Belmont. Roosevelt 67, Van Nuys 52--In a game that saw 10 lead changes, the Roughriders scored 16 of the first 19 points of the second half to pull away from the visiting Wolves in a City 4-A first-round playoff game Wednesday.
Roosevelt’s balanced scoring attack was led by Denise Caudillo’s 20 points, Leona Jacobs’ 19 and Zenobia Tyson Hunt’s 14.
