LANCASTER — Two newcomers were named to the board of the Antelope Valley Fair and one board member was reappointed.
Gov. Pete Wilson announced the appointments last week of Steve Landaker, a former trustee of the Antelope Valley Union High School District, and Betty Smith, customer service manager for a Palmdale trash company.
Board President Charla Abbott, a real estate agent chosen in 1990 to serve on the fair board, was reappointed by Wilson to a second four-year term.
Landaker and Smith replace John Blalock and Gary Cosgrove, both of whom were named in 1990 to the board of the 50th District Agricultural Assn. as it is formally known. Blalock sought reappointment while Cosgrove did not.
Smith is to be sworn in at the fair board’s meeting Thursday.
