COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Hernandez Leads Golden West Victory
Roseann Hernandez, who had two hits and two runs batted in, drove in Shelley Nelson in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Golden West a 4-3 nonconference softball victory over San Diego Mesa Wednesday at Golden West.
Winning pitcher Vivian Alvarado (2-0) entered the game in the fifth inning and struck out seven of eight. Golden West is 2-2. San Diego Mesa is 2-4.
In nonconference softball:
Cypress 12, Pasadena 1--Jennifer Allchin had four hits and scored two runs to lead Cypress (8-1). Jackie Ruiz, Kim Stiglbauer and Jenny Lopez combined for a two-hitter, with Ruiz picking up the victory. Cypress scored six of its runs on wild pitches.
In nonconference baseball:
Orange Coast 13, Palomar 4--Brian Igoe’s two-run homer in the first inning helped the host Pirates build a lead. They scored six runs in the first two innings.
Palomar (1-4) pitchers walked 11 and gave up 11 hits to Orange Coast (3-3). Freshman George Wise earned the victory in relief, pitching three scoreless innings.
In nonconference golf:
Cypress 388, Los Angeles Mission 431, Cerritos 433--Cypress’ Chris Castellano shot one-under-par 71 at Cypress Golf Club.
In nonconference men’s tennis:
Saddleback 6, Santa Barbara 3--Tim Morstad and Jeremy Driscoll each won their singles matches, then teamed to win at No. 2 doubles, 6-2, 6-4, for visiting Saddleback (1-0). Billy Casas won in singles, 6-0, 6-0, for Saddleback.
