COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Titans, CS Northridge Split in Softball
Jennifer Mortensen pitched a seven-hitter to help Cal State Fullerton to a 1-0 victory over Cal State Northridge in a nonconference women’s softball game Sunday at Cal State Fullerton.
Northridge, ranked No. 3 in the nation, came back to score four runs in the 13th to take the second game, 4-0.
It was the second shutout of the season for Mortensen (2-0). She had four strikeouts. The 16th-ranked Titans scored in the fifth when Heidi Robertson singled, stole second, was sacrificed to third and scored on a throwing error.
Fullerton (2-2) made four consecutive errors in the 13th to lead to all four Cal State Northridge runs. The Titans had six errors in the game. Northridge is 1-1.
In Pacific 10 wrestling:
Fresno State 26, Cal State Fullerton 6--Christian Holiday (158 pounds) and Laszlo Molner (167) were the only winners for the host Titans. Holiday beat Keith Richards, 3-2. Molner beat Eddie Luna, 18-5.
Sam Lopez of Fresno beat Kevin Mabry, 20-8, at 118 pounds. Lopez was an All-American at Cypress College.
In Big West Conference women’s basketball:
Hawaii 78, Cal State Fullerton 61--Jenny Kaeo scored 21 points and teammate Melanie Azmaa had 15 for visiting Hawaii (17-3, 10-2). Shayla Bradshaw had 18 for Cal State Fullerton (2-18, 1-11).
