Cloninger Named a Municipal Judge
A Ventura County deputy district attorney who has prosecuted major fraud cases has been selected to fill a vacancy on the Municipal Court, officials announced Friday.
Gov. Pete Wilson appointed James Cloninger, 41, of Ventura to the position. When Cloninger is sworn in, all 27 judgeships in Ventura County will be filled--15 on the Superior Court and 12 on the Municipal Court.
Cloninger has been a deputy district attorney in Ventura County since 1990. He previously prosecuted homicides in Orange County, where he also headed the appellate unit.
Cloninger, a native Californian, received his bachelor’s degree from the University of California and his law degree from Loyola University in Los Angeles in 1979.
He and his wife, Victoria, have two sons--Stephen, 4, and Jeffrey, 5.
