Paraclete Parlays Zeros Into Victory

Paraclete High’s 46-34 victory over Rosamond in a High Desert League boys’ basketball game Tuesday night began as zero hour.
At the end of the first quarter: Paraclete 0, Rosamond 0.
Rosamond (8-11, 2-7 in league play) lost to the Spirits (9-10, 6-3) by 40 points in their first meeting, so they slowed the pace this time. After Rosamond missed a shot and Paraclete missed two free throws, the Roadrunners held the ball for the last six minutes of the first quarter.
“It was like a standoff in the sun, who’s going to blink first,” Paraclete Coach Andy Gavel said. “We didn’t care because we had the possession arrow to start the second quarter.”
