VALLEY-AREA BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Eason Scores 30 to Propel Canyons Past Glendale, 77-67

Randy Eason scored 30 points, 21 in the first half, to lead College of the Canyons to a 77-67 Western State Conference victory over host Glendale. Canyons (8-15, 2-1 in conference play) led by two with 40 seconds left but padded the lead on free throws.

Mike Wright led Glendale (11-12, 2-2) with 24 points.

In other men’s basketball games:

Ventura 105, Cuesta 72--Brandon Jessie scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Pirates to an easy WSC win. Michael Tate added 18 points and 11 rebounds for Ventura (27-1, 3-0).

Bakersfield 70, Valley 54--Tim Levier hit five three-pointers and scored 20 points to lead visiting Bakersfield (10-16, 3-0) in a WSC Northern Division game played at Grant High. Craig Griffin and Eric Grayson scored 12 each for Valley (9-15, 1-3).

WOMEN

Canyons 84, Glendale 78 (OT)--Lisa Hilton scored nine of her 18 points in overtime to lead Canyons in a WSC game. Glendale’s Makela Theriault scored on a layup with eight seconds left to force the extra period. Susie Woo of Glendale (9-11, 5-5) led all scorers with 25 points and nine rebounds.

Ventura 60, Cuesta 33--Julie Hardy scored 15 points and Andrea Williams added 11 and eight steals for the visiting Pirates (20-4, 10-0) in a WSC game.

BOYS

Chaminade 68, Notre Dame 66--Mike Yang scored on a three-foot shot with three seconds to play to give the Eagles the go-ahead points in a Mission League game. Casey Cote led Chaminade (6-12, 2-6) with 19 points and Yang added 16 points.

Camarillo 79, Channel Islands 50--Jim Hansen scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Scorpions in a Marmonte League game. Andrew Richards of Camarillo (10-10, 6-4) led all scorers with 16 points.

Bell-Jeff 66, Cantwell Sacred Heart 63--Dan Mancinelli scored 32 points and Dave Matekel grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the visiting Guards (7-13, 2-4) to a Camino Real League victory.
