NCAA Lets Chapman Switch to Division III
Chapman University’s athletic programs were granted a switch to NCAA Division III Tuesday at the NCAA convention in San Antonio.
The move, effective the 1994-95 school year, means Panther teams will be able to attempt to qualify for Division III championships starting in the fall.
Currently, Chapman is competing as a Division II independent in all but baseball, which is a Division I program, but scheduling mostly Division III and NAIA teams.
The official recognition completes a process the university started in March, 1992, when it decided to make the switch and eliminate athletic scholarships.
