Wisconsin Investigates Ticket Fraud
MADISON, Wis. — As fans returned from the Rose Bowl with tales of woe, Attorney General James E. Doyle said Monday the state would investigate possible fraud by companies who offered game tickets but didn’t deliver.
And Gov. Tommy G. Thompson said he received a call from the chairman of the Federal Trade Commission promising an investigation into whether interstate commerce laws were broken.
Many people had bought plane tickets and paid for hotel rooms, then were not given the tickets they ordered for the game in which Wisconsin beat UCLA, 21-16. Others complained they had to pay more for tickets than the quoted prices.
