Bonner Quits as Tennis Coach at Marina High

Marina boys’ tennis Coach Chico Bonner resigned Monday after two seasons as coach.

Bonner led the Vikings to two Sunset League titles. He also coached the girls’ tennis team in 1992.

Marina Athletic Director Larry Doyle said applicants for the boys’ tennis position may contact him at (714) 893-6576, extension 271.

Valencia’s Chris Draft and Huntington Beach’s Tony Gonzalez were named to the first-team all-state football team by Cal-Hi Sports.

Draft was selected as a linebacker on defense and Gonzalez as a tight end/linebacker on the multi-purpose team.

Los Alamitos’ John Barnes was named coach of the year, and Anaheim running back Rueben Droughns was named sophomore of the year.

Defensive linemen Derrick Ford of Mater Dei and Terry Williams of El Dorado and defensive back Grant Pearsall of Villa Park were named to the second team.

Rancho Alamitos tackle Jeremiah Ross was named to the medium schools’ first-team offense. Brethren Christian tackle Darryl Jones was named to the small schools’ first-team offense. Calvary Chapel lineman Dan Sundquist and Brethren Christian defensive back Reggie Davis were named first-team defense. Brethren Christian running back/linebacker Keith Washington was named to the multi-purpose team.
