Nation IN BRIEF : NEW JERSEY : Icebound Dolphins May Have Got Free

Hopes that dolphins trapped in an icebound river inlet had made their way to the sea brightened with unofficial reports that the mammals were spotted off Sandy Hook. That sighting followed a report of three bottlenose dolphins in that vicinity the day before. The Coast Guard, Marine Police and volunteers from the Marine Mammal Stranding Center had tried to herd the dolphins from the ice-covered Shrewsbury River near Sea Bright to the Atlantic Ocean.
