BELL-JEFF TOURNAMENT
Bell-Jeff 57, Venice 43--Christina Ticsay had 25 points and seven assists as the Guards prevailed in the championship game. Carrie Breedlove added 10 points and grabbed 18 rebounds, and teammate Cathy Flores had 15 rebounds as Venice was held under 50 points for the first time in the tournament.
Rosamond 65, North Hollywood 51--Husky point guard Anna Celaya, who is averaging 24 points a game, fouled out early in the fourth quarter and was held to under 20 points (15) for the first time this season as defending Southern Section Division IV-A champion Rosamond (9-1) beat North Hollywood (5-5) in the third-place game.
La Salle 54, Oak Park 51--Oak Park rallied from a 12-point fourth-quarter deficit to pull within three points, but Alisha Valavanis’ three-point shot at the buzzer rimmed out, giving La Salle the consolation championship.
Natalie Davis had a season-high 22 points and Valavanis added 14 for Oak Park (9-4).
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
San Jose State 73, CS Northridge 62--Sophomore guard Michelle Esparza scored 23 points but it wasn’t enough as the host Matadors (1-9) lost their sixth consecutive game.
Ventura 69, Kings River 39--The Pirates (10-4) owned a 37-14 lead at halftime and coasted to a 30-point victory in a nonconference game at Ventura.
El Camino 57, Valley 54--Maggie Hause sank one of two free throws with one second remaining after a flagrant foul by an El Camino player, but then missed a desperation shot from beyond the three-point line on the ensuing inbounds play as El Camino held on to take fifth place at the Fullerton tournament.
