COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Arizona Blitzes No. 7 Michigan

Khalid Reeves slashed and drove for a career-high 40 points as No. 12 Arizona blew out seventh-ranked Michigan, 119-95, Thursday night to claim its ninth consecutive Fiesta Bowl Classic title at Tucson.

The loss was the worst for any Michigan team since the Wolverines lost to Loyola Marymount, 149-115, in 1990.

Arizona (10-1) trailed, 23-19, with 11:08 left in the half before surging to a 54-38 halftime advantage, and its quickness and shooting stunned the Wolverines (7-2).

Reeves set a tournament single-game scoring record as both teams finished with five players in double figures. Ray Owes had a career-high 21 points, Damon Stoudamire and Reggie Geary 12 apiece and Dylan Rigdon 10.

No. 3 Duke 87, Western Carolina 67--Grant Hill rebounded from a poor start and scored 21 points, leading the Blue Devils at Durham, N.C.

Showing the apparent effects of a seven-day layoff, the Blue Devils couldn’t build an offensive rhythm early. Hill struggled the most, missing five of his first six shots before closing with four points in the last three minutes.

The Blue Devils (7-0) extended their home winning streak against non-Atlantic Coast Conference teams to 85 games.

No. 5 Kentucky 92, Robert Morris 67--Jared Prickett had 10 points in an early 23-4 run that powered the Wildcats at Lexington, Ky.

Kentucky (9-1) used its press to force 17 turnovers in the first half and held a 52-29 edge at halftime. Freshman guard Jeff Sheppard came off the bench to lead the Wildcats with a career-high 18 points and Prickett finished with 17. Rodrick Rhodes scored 13 and Rodney Dent 10.

No. 6 Kansas 84, Southern Methodist 64--Richard Scott led the Jayhawks on a 29-5 run in the second half and Kansas broke away from Southern Methodist at Kansas City, Mo., in the title game of the Golden Harvest Classic.

Kansas (13-1) stretched its winning streak to nine and ran its record in the tournament to 12-0.

No. 10 Purdue 108, Weber State 73--Glenn Robinson scored 31 points, including 21 in the second half, to lead the Boilermakers at Ogden, Utah.

Robinson also had 13 rebounds before leaving the game with six minutes left. Cuonzo Martin added 22 points for the Boilermakers (10-0).

No. 14 Connecticut 130, Tennessee Tech 78--Junior forward Donyell Marshall scored a career-high 35 points at Hilo, Hawaii, as Connecticut set a school scoring record to take third place at the Big Island Invitational.

The Huskies (9-1) held a 65-44 lead over Tennessee Tech (4-7) at the beginning of the second half before going on a 16-5 run to take an 81-49 lead with 14:58 left in the game.

Clemson 68, No. 20 Oklahoma State 65--Sharonne Wright had 25 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Tigers to the upset win to take fifth place in the Rainbow Classic at Honolulu.

The Tigers (6-3) used a 17-4 run to open a 13-point lead over Oklahoma State (8-5) with 5:26 left in the game.

No. 22 Boston College 85, Long Island 54--Malcolm Huckaby scored 12 points on four early three-pointers to lead Boston College at Newton, Mass.

Huckaby hit all four of his three-pointers in the first seven minutes as Boston College (8-2) took a 25-8 lead.

Arturas Karnishovas broke a shooting slump by scoring 25 of his career-high 34 points in the second half to rally Seton Hall (7-2) to a 75-69 victory over Stanford (7-2) at East Rutherford, N.J., in the championship game of the Seton Hall/Meadowlands Tournament. . . . Joe Temple scored all five of his points in overtime, leading San Diego (7-2) to a 64-61 victory over Manhattan (5-4) for third place in the Seton Hall Tournament. . . .
