Questioning Where Ventura Blvd. Is Headed

* I just read the article by Aaron Curtiss regarding the Ventura Boulevard Plan (Dec. 11).

Once again, the article shows that the plan’s main purpose is to control the amount of traffic on Ventura Boulevard. In my opinion, that is only part of what should be planned and maybe not even a major part of the plan.

The goal should be to make Ventura Boulevard look like the Valley’s main street. The plan should implement more off-street parking, better landscaping and sign control.

There should also be control over architectural design so that we don’t have a building on the boulevard that appears to be better suited for an industrial park, and a second-rate one at that (the new Adray’s store in Encino). This could be accomplished for a fraction of the cost and could be implemented at once.

I agree with Jeff Brain, chairman of the Specific Plan Review Board, that the cost should be borne by all property owners who benefit--not just newcomers.
