NHL ROUNDUP : Lindros Gives Lift to Flyers
Returning after sitting out 14 games because of a knee injury, Eric Lindros set up the go-ahead goal Thursday night that led the Philadelphia Flyers to a 3-2 victory over the Quebec Nordiques at Philadelphia.
The victory ended a four-game losing streak for the Flyers, who started the season with a 12-6 record with Lindros, but went 5-8-1 after he partially tore a ligament in his right knee on Nov. 11. Lindros, in his second season with Philadelphia, was leading the team in scoring when he was injured.
“The first period, it felt like I was skating in sand,†Lindros said. “But after that, I guess the adrenaline sort of took over.â€
The score was tied, 2-2, when Lindros took the puck behind the net and fed it to Mark Recchi, who scored at 14:29 of the second period.
“It was like ho, ho, ho. It was a good gift,†Lindros said of seeing Recchi off the left post.
Mikael Renberg, also credited with an assist on the play, said that Lindros gives the Flyers confidence in the offense that they don’t have without him.
“That kind of goal, we wouldn’t have scored it without him,†Renberg said.
Pittsburgh 2, Buffalo 1--Joe Mullen scored with 2:07 to play in the third period to lift the Penguins at Pittsburgh.
Peter Taglianetti shot the puck from the left point and Dominik Hasek made the save, but Mullen backhanded the rebound into the net while being knocked down by defenseman Craig Muni. Mullen has goals in five consecutive games and 15 overall this season.
Hasek has given up only 13 goals in his last 11 games. He shut out the Penguins until 11:16 of the third period, when Doug Brown scored his eighth goal.
