More About Mexico: Thanks to a new contract, Birtcher Construction in Laguna Niguel will head south to build a $15-million Hyatt Regency hotel in Guadalajara.

Birtcher will renovate an existing 10-story hotel tower with 283 rooms and add a 10-story hotel tower with 130 rooms.

Expected to be completed in nine months, the renovation includes upgrading all hotel rooms and remodeling the bathrooms to feature marble floors and new plumbing fixtures. Construction of the new facilities is also expected to be completed in nine months.

Not to be left out in the rush to the border is Keith Cos., a Costa Mesa civil engineering firm. It was recently awarded a civil engineering and management contract for a large golf course and residential resort development in Guadalajara. The 650-acre project is expected to feature an 18-hole golf course and 700 homes.
