OXNARD : Police Plan Meeting on Teen Drug Abuse
Oxnard police will hold a town hall meeting Wednesday in La Colonia to talk with residents about a new program targeting teen-age drug and alcohol abuse in that neighborhood.
The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Ramona School, 804 Cooper Road. Representatives from the Police Department, juvenile probation, county alcohol and drug programs and El Concilio will be on hand to answer questions.
A task force of agencies launched Operation Revitalization several months ago with $363,500 in state and federal grant monies. Since then, police, probation officers and school officials have identified teen-agers who abuse drugs or alcohol. In other cases, officials target youths whose parents have drug or alcohol abuse problems.
The targeted youths are then ordered to participate in counseling programs run by the Oxnard Union High School District and Ventura County.
