Highlights
Mater Dei’s run for the State title ran into a stone wall when the Monarchs lost a stunner to eventual State champion Los Angeles Crenshaw, 63-61, March 6 at the L.A. Sports Arena. This, after making mincemeat of its Southern Section Division I-A opponents--Mater Dei outscored the competition, 293-208, en route to its third section title of the 1990s. . . . The league race wasn’t much, but four of its members qualified for the postseason and only one, Mission Viejo in Division II-AA, lost in the opening round. In Division I-AA, Capistrano Valley won three rounds and reached the semifinals before losing to top-seeded and eventual champion Long Beach Jordan. In the same division, Dana Hills lost to finalist Simi Valley in the second round.
