Snow’s Up on Malibu’s Slopes
If you’re thinking of taking the kids snow sledding this weekend, Malibu probably hasn’t come to mind. But that’s real snow on the slopes of the Calamigos Country Christmas Village, and they’re hauling it in from Mammoth every weekend for the event through Dec. 19.
Calamigos Ranch is the site of the annual old-fashioned holiday event, which also features barn dances, a Western saloon, holiday food and craft booths, entertainment, a carousel and petting zoo. On opening day Saturday, a line dance competition will include participants from California, Arizona and Nevada.
Founded in 1949 by Grant and Helen Walter Gerson, the ranch includes 80 acres open for public banquets, barnyard dances and other events year-round. The annual Country Christmas is a fund-raiser for Agoura Valley Woman’s Club, Free Arts for Abused Children, St. Joseph Center and others. 327 S. Latigo Canyon Road, Malibu. Saturdays-Sundays, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. through Dec. 19.
Admission is $5; children 5-12, $2 (most activities are included). For information, call (818) 889-6280.
